
The Ark of Taste is a Slow Food thing – it “aims to rediscover, catalog, describe and publicize forgotten flavors”. Our local Slow Food Dallas convivium is looking across Texas to see what forgotten flavors there might be.
For many of us with Texas roots, fig trees were part of our heritage growing up; our grandmothers had them, we tolerated them, and now we’re learning about this exotic fruit that’s literally been in our backyards all along. The fig tree pictured above started life 10 years ago as a cutting from Nancy’s great-grandmother’s tree in Gilmer, Texas and now graces the northwest corner of our home in McKinney. (more…)
