Bonnie Ruth’s: French Cuisine in the ‘Burbs

Sitting outdoors on one of the first cool days of this infernal season, I eased into the ambience at Bonnie Ruth’s. The high-ceilinged restaurant opens its French (of course) doors on pleasant days like this and the feel is bistro, Parisian street. Watters Crossing in Allen seems to be finally finding its vibe and living up to the pleasant, winding, green “I-can’t-believe-I’m-shopping” shopping center that its developers intended.
The problem is, it’s not really France, so from time to time during the meal I stopped to wonder why this restaurant, that seems like it could get it right, has gone in such a different direction. I won’t say wrong. But that adequately delicious eggy bread served upon arrival was no baguette. And served with butter (cut to Parisian eye-roll)! Is that wrong, or just different? (more…)
